Structural drying removes trapped moisture from building materials after leaks, flooding, or water damage. Proper drying helps prevent ongoing damage to drywall, flooring, insulation, framing, and other parts of the structure.
What the Job Involves
Technicians check moisture levels in affected walls, floors, ceilings, insulation, and structural wood. Commercial air movers and dehumidifiers are positioned to circulate air and remove moisture from the affected areas.
Signs You Need It
- Wet drywall or flooring
- Damp wall cavities
- Moisture in structural wood
- Wet insulation
- Musty odors
- Recent flooding or major leaks
How the Work Goes
Moisture levels are measured first to identify the wettest areas. Air movers are positioned to increase evaporation, while dehumidifiers remove moisture from the air. Technicians continue taking moisture readings until affected materials reach appropriate drying levels.
What Affects the Cost
Cost depends on the size of the affected area, materials involved, moisture levels, accessibility, equipment required, and drying time. Hidden moisture in wall cavities or under flooring can require additional equipment and monitoring.
